Our Charity:
Footsteps Walking with You is a charity that provides affordable face-to-face counselling for young people. In a time of growing waiting lists, increased costs for counselling services, and a worsening mental health crisis among children, we aim to bridge the gap by supporting children and their families with the sensitivity and energy they deserve.
Pay what you can:
We believe that everybody, no matter their means, needs a space to talk and be understood. The standard cost of a counselling session is £35, so we ask people to make a realistic contribution towards the cost if they can. However, if they aren’t able to contribute, we look to our supporters to cover the cost of counselling.

“Helping tomorrow’s adults to cope with today’s problems”
Equipping young people for life
At Footsteps, we understand that many of the problems that adults experience are rooted in childhood. That’s why it’s so important to address the difficulties faced by our young people – left alone these difficulties risk becoming life-long issues. We believe in equipping young people with coping skills that will allow them to become sensitive but robust adults who are ready to deal the challenges of adult life.
Person-centred counselling:
The counselling sessions are in-person at our lovely site at Quay Church, Woodbridge. Our fully qualified team are experienced in dealing with a wide range of issues, from loneliness, anger-management and trauma to disorders like depression, anxiety and poor self-image.
However, we understand that each person’s counselling journey is, like them, unique. More than anything, everybody needs a space where they can feel comfortable being themselves. Because of this, at Footsteps there is no pressure to talk about what is bothering you – we support children and young adults by allowing them to express themselves through arts and crafts, through play, and by talking about what is important to them.
Why we do what we do:
Those of us at Footsteps understand the difficult situation faced by young people today. The digital age that we are living in, particularly social media, has created unique problems for today’s children, with a growing number suffering from anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. Families are still reeling from the isolating effects of the pandemic as well as the cost-of-living crisis and, worse still, there is a lack of provision for mental health services that support young people.
That’s where we come in – you can find more information about our counsellors on the following page, titled ‘Who we are’.
