Our Charity
Welcome to the website of the Melrose Paris Foundation. Our charity is a family-run, grassroots organisation that seeks to support young people in Freetown, Sierra Leone with their educational prospects as well as other community projects in that area. Feel free to explore the website to find out more and, if you like the look of our work, consider supporting us. Be it through donations, help with fundraising in the UK, or getting involved with our annual trip to Freetown, there are plenty of ways that you can help!

My Story
[insert picture of Melrose]
Hi, I’m Melrose – a social worker based in Kesgrave, Suffolk and the founder of the Melrose Paris foundation. Our charity started back in 2016 on a family trip to my hometown near Freetown, Sierra Leone. During the trip, we visited my old secondary school and found a group of distraught parents and children sitting outside. The parents, who were unable to pay the growing school fees, had just been told that their children would no longer be able to attend school. Having grown up there I was well aware of the difficulties faced by my community but my daughters, who were born and raised in the UK, were shocked. Seeing the situation through my daughters’ eyes, I decided to help and the following day I returned and agreed to sponsor some of the children who couldn’t pay their fees – and so the project was born!
A Grassroots Charity
As time went on, the number of children supported by our project grew to a point where we decided to become a fully-fledged charity, and in 2018 we gained foundation status. That said, we are still, and have always been, a grassroots organisation powered by a deep connection with the community in Freetown. Unlike larger charities, we interact personally with those we support and because of this, you can be sure that every donation goes directly to the individuals in need. As well as sponsoring children’s education we also provide support for community projects including a maternity ward, the only old people’s home in Sierra Leone, and more.
New Page – Our Programs
[Move the information on ‘About us’ page to a new ‘Our programs’ page – I think this would be a nice way to organise the website.]
